


Need In RI:· There are approximately 36,000 children under the age 3 living in RI*
· Over 14,000 children, newborns through age 4, live in poverty in Rhode Island.*
· 11,883 children between ages 1-4 receive WIC support *
· 5,713 infants receive WIC support*
“WIC” is The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children. To qualify applicants’ income must fall at or below 185% of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines, currently $35, 798 for a family of four. (from www.Fns.usda.gov./wic).
· WIC and Food Stamps do not purchase diapers.
· An infant needs 10-12 diapers a day, averaging $50 a month
